SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP)

Technologies

Supply chains don’t break at execution first — they break at planning

SAP Integrated Business Planning for Supply Chain (SAP IBP) is SAP’s cloud platform for sales & operations planning, demand forecasting, response and supply planning, and inventory optimization — one integrated plan built on live SAP data instead of disconnected spreadsheets. And with SAP Business AI, that plan is learning to sense demand shifts, explain exceptions, and simulate decisions before you make them.

Altivate, an SAP Gold Partner, implements SAP IBP as a business outcome: higher service levels, lower working capital, and forecasts your commercial team actually trusts.

The planner’s job shifts from assembling data to judging options.

From governed data to AI-assisted decisions — how SAP IBP turns planning into a competitive advantage. One governed source of demand and supply truth feeds one integrated plan from strategy to execution, with intelligence that senses, explains, and acts across the plan.
Migration

Why move to SAP IBP now

The planning deadline: SAP APO mainstream maintenance ends in 2027.

SAP IBP is SAP’s successor for APO’s demand planning, supply network planning, and S&OP capabilities — while production planning and detailed scheduling (PP/DS) moves into SAP S/4HANA as embedded PP/DS, and global ATP becomes advanced ATP (aATP). Mainstream maintenance for SAP APO ends in 2027, so just as the ECC deadline reshaped ERP roadmaps, the APO deadline is reshaping supply chain planning: every organization still on APO needs a defined path off it — and a planning migration is a process redesign, not a technical lift-and-shift.

Paid extended maintenance runs at most to 2030, a premium to keep a frozen product on life support. Teams that start the move to SAP IBP now choose their own pace, redesign planning properly, and go live calmly. Teams that wait inherit someone else’s timeline.

The deadline is the trigger — but the upside is the reason. Moving to SAP IBP means planning in real time on SAP HANA, quarterly cloud innovation instead of frozen on-premise versions, planner-friendly Microsoft Excel and SAP Fiori front ends, what-if simulation on demand, and native integration with SAP S/4HANA — so the plan and the business finally run on the same numbers.

Capabilities

SAP IBP capabilities — and the outcomes they drive

Sales & Operations Planning

One plan the whole business runs on. Align volumes, financials, and targets in a single S&OP cycle — so leadership decides on shared numbers, not competing spreadsheets.

Demand Planning & Sensing

Forecast what customers will actually buy. Statistical models and machine learning sharpen the baseline, while demand sensing corrects the short term — fewer stockouts, less firefighting.

Response & Supply Planning

Commit to dates you can keep. Generate feasible, constraint-aware supply plans, allocate scarce supply by priority, and re-promise orders with confidence when reality shifts.

Inventory Optimization

Free the cash trapped in your network. Multi-echelon optimization sets inventory targets that protect service levels with less stock — and hands working capital back to the business.

Demand-Driven Replenishment

Calm the bullwhip. Strategic decoupling points and demand-driven buffers absorb volatility, so one noisy forecast doesn’t whip your entire supply chain.

Supply Chain Control Tower

See disruption before it costs you. End-to-end visibility with intelligent alerts and exception workflows — problems surface early, with the context to act on them.

The edge

AI-powered planning with SAP Business AI

SAP IBP’s machine-learning forecasting is only the start. Under SAP Business AI, planning is becoming conversational and agentic: Joule is arriving in SAP IBP so planners can interrogate the plan in natural language, while AI capabilities sense demand shifts as they happen, triage and explain exceptions instead of flooding planners with alerts, and simulate scenarios across demand, supply, and inventory before a decision is committed.

All of it depends on trusted data. SAP IBP runs on SAP HANA and integrates with SAP Business Data Cloud → (including SAP Datasphere) for a governed data foundation — so AI recommendations are grounded in governed business data. As an SAP Gold Partner certified to ISO 27001, Altivate helps you adopt AI-powered planning with governance built in from day one.

  • Demand sensing — catch the shift early
  • Exception management — act on what matters
  • Scenario simulation — decide before you commit
